Film Fixer in Paraguay

Maite Media is a film fixer in Paraguay for international productions: permits, locations, crew, equipment, customs and logistics, handled by an established Asunción production company rather than a single freelancer.

What a film fixer in Paraguay does for you

Filming in Paraguay is rewarding and still largely undiscovered by international crews. It is also a country where much of the practical work runs on local relationships, Spanish-language paperwork and on-the-ground knowledge. That is the gap a fixer closes.

We handle the local side so your team can focus on the story

Before you land, we turn your treatment or shot list into a workable local plan: which locations are realistic, which authorizations each one needs, how long they take, and what the schedule looks like once travel distances and weather are factored in. During the shoot we stay with the crew, solving problems in real time.

  • Research, location options and access negotiations
  • Permits and authorizations in Spanish, filed and followed up locally
  • Finding contributors, interviewees and local experts
  • Crew, drivers, interpreters and production assistants
  • Gear, transport, accommodation and catering
  • A single point of contact who answers the phone on shoot day

Film permits and local authorizations

Municipal permits for streets and public spaces, authorizations for infrastructure sites such as ANDE facilities or Itaipú Binacional, access to protected areas managed by the Ministry of Environment (MADES), and DINAC authorization for drone flights.

Location scouting and management

Photo and video recces against your brief, owner agreements, location fees and on-the-day management, from colonial Asunción streets to remote estancias in the Chaco.

Local crew and talent sourcing

Camera operators, sound recordists, gaffers, drivers and production assistants, plus casting for talent, extras and real contributors for documentary work.

Equipment rental

Cameras, lenses, lighting and professional audio from our own inventory in Asunción, so you can travel light and avoid importing gear you can source locally.

Customs and gear logistics

Paraguay is not part of the ATA Carnet system, so equipment you bring in enters under a temporary import process. We plan the paperwork and timing with a licensed customs broker so your gear clears without surprises.

Interpreters and production coordination

English-speaking coordination on set and interpreters for interviews in Spanish and Guaraní, the two official languages of Paraguay, on set and in post-production review.

Transport and accommodation

Crew vans, 4x4 vehicles for the Chaco, airport pickups, hotels, per diems and catering, planned around realistic driving times between locations.

Studio space in Asunción

Our own 135 m² studio with a cyclorama and a 78 m² patio in Santa Ana, Asunción, for interviews, product shots and controlled setups between location days.

Filming locations in Paraguay

Paraguay packs very different landscapes into one country. A few of the places international crews ask us about most:

Asunción

The capital on the Paraguay River: the Palacio de López, the Panteón Nacional de los Héroes, the colourful Loma San Jerónimo neighbourhood and a riverside costanera. Most productions base themselves here.

The Gran Chaco

Vast dry forest and open plains to the west, Mennonite colonies around Filadelfia and Loma Plata, and the Trans-Chaco Highway. Distances are long, so planning, fuel and vehicles matter.

The Paraguayan Pantanal

Wetlands in Alto Paraguay, around Bahía Negra, with exceptional wildlife. Access is by river or light aircraft, which makes logistics the main part of the job.

Encarnación and the Jesuit Missions

A riverside city on the Paraná and the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of Trinidad and Jesús de Tavarangue nearby. Filming at the missions requires coordination with the national tourism authority (SENATUR), which administers the sites.

Ciudad del Este and the triple border

A busy commercial hub on the Friendship Bridge to Brazil, a short drive from the Iguazú Falls area and the border with Argentina.

Itaipú Dam

One of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world, shared by Paraguay and Brazil near Hernandarias. Filming requires prior authorization from Itaipú Binacional, which we request on your behalf.

Why work with Maite Media

Most film fixing in Paraguay is done by individual freelancers. That works for a two-person news team. When the shoot has a budget, a client and a schedule, you want a production company behind the fixer.

A production company that also fixes

  • An established production company based in Asunción, not a single contact who might be unavailable
  • Our own studio, equipment and crew, so gear and people do not depend on third parties
  • Founder-led: Fernando Cañete is personally involved in the projects we take on
  • English-speaking coordination from first email to wrap
  • Fast replies: we answer enquiries within 24 hours

How we work

Send the brief, dates, locations and crew size. We reply within 24 hours with questions, first feasibility notes and any red flags around permits or timing.

2. Quote

A clear, itemised quote covering fixer days, permits, crew, gear, transport and accommodation, so your producer can budget with confidence.

3. Pre-production

4. Shoot support

We are on set with your crew: driving, translating, managing locations and solving the problems that always come up.

5. Wrap

Gear returns, customs exit paperwork, final invoices and any follow-up pickups or archive requests after the crew has flown home.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit to film in Paraguay?

It depends on where and how you film. Closing streets, filming in government buildings, infrastructure sites such as Itaipú, protected areas, heritage sites like the Jesuit Missions, or private property all require authorization. We tell you exactly which permits your plan needs and handle them for you.

Can you help with drone permits?

Yes. Drone operations in Paraguay are regulated by the national civil aviation authority, DINAC, under regulation R 1103. Flights need prior authorization with the aircraft details, operator details and a flight plan, and night flights are not permitted. We prepare and file the request and coordinate any additional clearances for restricted areas.

Do you handle customs for equipment?

Yes. Paraguay does not accept ATA Carnets, so professional equipment is brought in under a temporary import process. We plan the documentation and timing with a licensed customs broker and, when it makes more sense, source equipment locally so you can travel lighter.

What languages does your team speak?

Our team works in English, Spanish, Guaraní and Portuguese. For interviews in Guaraní or with communities in remote areas, we bring in experienced local interpreters.

How fast can you mobilize?

It depends on the scope. Simple shoots in and around Asunción can move quickly, while permits for drones, infrastructure or heritage sites take longer, so contact us as early as possible with your dates.

Can you work as our line producer in Paraguay?

Yes. For larger shoots we can manage the local budget, crew, equipment and schedule as your Paraguay line producer, reporting to your production team.
